If you search for Tim Ricks on the Internet, you will discover there really isn’t that much to find in terms of biography. Tim is a modest man and prefers to let his work speak for itself. What we can tell you is that he is located in Los Angeles, shoots mens fashion and has had several publications in his career of 11 years photography. Plus he is always looking for new faces.
Although his work is so powerful it pretty much speaks for itself, we did talk to Tim and asked him his inspiration and reasoning behind the images. The first two photos in this article are a 'Male Study,' shot in August of this year, shot against white simply to bring out the beauty of the model’s tone and body.
The 'Chain Series' has several meanings. It deals with Tim’s feelings on the many struggles of day to day life and depicts how daily we deny that we still have many obstacles. That’s why in each there is a flower covering the eyes or mouth. This series was changed from the 'Chain Series' to the 'See No Series' in 2006. The artist now wants to explain it as he believes the images speak in volume.
Tim created the 'Safe Sex series' after loosing several people to AIDS, thinking how painful this crisis has been to the community and how people are often left to fight this disease alone. The barb wire to represent how many are shunned from society because of the sexual preferences. Each photo makes the viewer wonder about it’s meaning.
