Going Dutch with Gert Harms

THIS MORNING WE PREPARED YOU A VERY SPECIAL TREAT UNDER THE CHRISTMAS TREE. HIS NAME IS GERT HARMS, HE IS A PAINTER AND PHOTOGRAPHER, 43 YEARS OLD AND HE IS DUTCH.

Fanatic Internet surfers might recognize him under the pseudo 'painter010.' The men and boys who pose for him know him as Gert Harms. Gertjan  – alias Gert Harms – was born in 1963 in The Netherlands. He studied fashion illustration and photography and modeled himself for 7 years, so it is no surprise he knows how to capture his subjects in the best poses and light. In 1990 Gertjan opened his own model agency in Rotterdam and he spent 10 years devoting all his time and energy to this venture. Now he has returned to his first love: painting and photography, dedicating one day a week to this passion.

Gert is a master if it come to making his models feel relaxed and comfortable. The fact he is not bad looking himself might be one of the reasons. But Gert also has a professional integrity, and it doesn’t take long before his models feel completely at home before his camera. "I prefer to work with strong side lighting, emphasizing the musculature and body contour," he explains his photographic style. Gert’s photo work usually goes a step further than his paintings. Lot’s of time he captures photographic poses inspired by pornographic images depicting drops of sweat, wet clothing and large quantities of oil. The work is a combination of open voyeurism and fetishism, honest and unashamed, and on occasion, fierce and offensive. –B-
