HE TAKES HIS MEN BOTH IN SIDE AND OUTSIDE, BUT HAS A CLEAR PREFERENCE FOR EXTERIOR LOCATIONS, WHERE HE CAN PLAY WITH NATURAL LIGHT. HIS SUBJECTS ARE SEXY, HOT AND WILLING, AND THEY DON’T MIND TO REVEAL THEMSELVES. WE PRESENT YOU PHOTOGRAPHER MICHAEL SNELL.
Michael Snell first picked up a camera at the age of 16, at 17 he negotiated his first backstage pass to photograph Alice Cooper live in concert, and at 18 he was published in several magazines and he started to explore entertainment writing. For ten years he has been photographing the hottest stars on tour at that time. We are talking about Rod Steward, Hall & Oates, Tina Turner, Grace Jones, Bette Midler, Heart, Diana Ross and Madonna. Realizing the entertainment business has its limitations, Michael turned his focus on non-celebrities about 5 years ago, Michael started to specialize himself in distinctive male imagery done on location.
Michael Snell is an openly gay photographer with a strong attraction for the male physique and erotica. Together with his partner for 8 years David, who frequently assists as art director, he works as a team to maximize the subjects’ photographic potential. Michael looks at photography as a series of captured moments. Location shoots gives him the freedom for interesting backgrounds and compositions, which all help convey a feeling from the model and to create the magic chemistry between him and his subject which is so essential in making exceptional images."Photography is very powerful in the fact that I can freeze a moment in time," he says. "If I live to be eighty I will be able to pick up one of my photographs and go back to that moment and remember every detail of how that image came to be." That shouldn’t be too difficult since a European publishing house already showed great interest in Michael’s work, so hopefully we can expect a photobook in the near future. –B-
