REAL CREATIVE TALENT CHARACTERIZES ITSELF BY THE URGE TO CONSTANTLY
PRODUCE, IMPROVE AND THAT UNSTOPPABLE URGE FOR PERFECTIONISM. THAT
HUNGER TO FIND NEW EXPRESSION AND INNOVATIVE WAYS TO VENTILATE.
Someone once said that Diego Lema’s work
is made by moments and that once you see it, you can only think poetry.
And it is true. Diego is a visual poet. His work is unique and
capturing. Diego Lema comes originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina,
but lives and works now in Miami. After he finished his graphic design
study at the University of Buenos Aires, he moved to Mexico where he
made a successful living as a model, a profession that has given him a
lot of enjoyment. But since two years he has also found satisfaction
behind the camera. And even though he was comfortable working in the
modeling business, he discovered true freedom creating his own images.
When asked about his Argentinean background, Diego told us: "I'm
so proud to be Argentinean. I am nostalgic and melancholic like a
Tango. I always love to come back to my country. Beautiful and friendly
people. A lot passion and good energy. Something that I always feel
when I visit my family and friends."
In the past two years, Diego has created an extensive portfolio
under the name Quemas. A large part consist out of self portraits. When
asked why he uses himself as his own model, Diego refers to his
modeling work as he explains: "I have become tired of those
portraits where I look 'handsome'. I want to see myself dirty, broken,
flying, or under certain situations nobody would photograph for being
too conservative."

Diego Lema’s photos tell stories. Each image carries a feeling or
experience, whether they are in a series or stand alones. And sometimes
that story develops itself as the work comes to an end. "Many times it happens to me that when I see the final work in the computer I change the original idea by a new one," explains Diego. "I
am not used to sketching my ideas. I am rather anxious and practical.
The idea comes and if I am in the mood I get the camera and take the
pictures."
Diego Lema is starting to become a known name and face. Already he
had publications in Spain, The Netherlands and Australia, and an
earlier feature here on Beautiful. Diego is someone we will definitely
hear more about in the future. –B-
