Simon Barnes alias Hotsnapz started doing photography using film but switched to digital about ten years ago. Already he had had many photos published, and he hopes to achieve more in the future. Simon Barnes might actually be familiar to some of you for very different reasons. He has been associated with theater since he was 16 as an actor, and later as director/producer, has appeared in many UK TV shows and a large amount of advertisements, and worked with men like Ridley Scott, whom we know from movies like Thelma & Louis, Alien, Hannibal and Gladiator.

Hotsnapz looks at his models as human beings, not as objects for his photography. Or, as he states himself, he likes to create his images with his models instead of fitting them into a pre-planned idea and just use them as a prop. Props he has enough of. Costumes as well. There are hundreds to be found in his studio. What Hotsnapz likes is to let the model make his choice, and take it from there.

It was Zach Burns and some others that dragged Hotsnapz into the 21th century. Screaming, as he says himself. It was then that he realized his models needed to be more than a passive image. They needed to be a force of energy that holds the attention. Simon explains: “Zach is a perfectionist and his eye for detail helped me to understand what a model wanted in his images but also what I knew would be commercial. I think my theater background helps with this too.” Currently Hotsnapz is shooting for Oxygen Model Agency. “I love the challenge of giving each model a unique look for their portfolios and try to include the reverse of their normal style..pushing them away from their safe zones.” Please welcome Simon Barnes, alias Hotsnapz. –B-
