IT MUST HAVE BEEN THE MOMENT THAT BRAD PITT ASKED EDWARD NORTON TO HIT HIM AS HARD AS HE COULD, THAT TURNED THE 1999 FILM FIGHT CLUB IN ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR COUNTERCULTURE CLASSICS FOR THE MASSES. EVER SINCE ITS RELEASE, FIGHT CLUB HAS ENJOYED SUCCESS AND HAS BEEN AN INSPIRATION FOR MANY ARTIST.
In that very same year, Steven Klein shot that very same Brad Pitt in a Fight Club-ish scenario for W Magazine, featuring Brad face down on a concrete floor, almost butt naked. Most likely a dream for pretty much every photographer. But what has that all to do with today’s Beautiful Thursday. Well a little bit of everything and nothing at the same time.
London based photographer Dylan Rosser is known for his sensual, suggestive and clean male model photography. If you don’t know him yet, we strongly advise you to type his name in the search window on the right hand side to look him up on BeautifulMag. Guaranteed you will find plenty of examples of this mans fantastic work. About two years ago, Dylan met Caleb, a model that reminded him strongly of Brad Pitt. It was around that same time that Dylan had a creative itch that urged him to experiment in other directions he had followed that far. Meeting Caleb, and working with this handsome man, Dylan started to get the idea of a ‘fight club’ style shoot, inspired by Klein’s work, but moving it in an entire different direction. Professional and talented as he is, he managed to do exactly that, creating a series of photographs that were nothing compared to what he had done before, without loosing that typical Dylan Rosser style that we all came to like so much.
Dylan new the fight club idea had been done very well before by other photographers and knowing he could probably not improve that but still wanting to do something very different from what he normally did, Dylan Rosser took a trip to a hardware store where he bought as much props and building materials he could find, turning his studio into a scene that made a building site look like a designer apartment. And that is where the fun started. Dylan set his mind on dirtier, busier and more colorful images then he had ever done, and that is exactly what he did. “I wanted to play with using different color lights and textures,” Dylan explains. “The shoots can be quite fun, and I get to make my models all dirty and throw oil and dirt on them. I think they enjoy it too.”
Up till now Dylan Rosser has shot several series in his Dirty Boys style, bringing the total up to more then 200 finished photographs. And the funny thing is, that many of the models can be found back in Dylan’s original clean, simple and muted signature style. Now the rumor is that Fight Club producer is playing with the idea of turning the film into a stage musical. If that is the case, and if he is in need of some sexy models, we sure know who he should call to get them. –B-
As of Friday February 08, Dylan Rosser will open the Dirty Boys section on his website, with a members section that goes further than what we show you here and is definitely worth it.
