AFTER MORE THEN TWO YEARS OF PREPARATION, BARCELONA SAW WITH PRIDE THE WORLD PREMIERE OF A VERY NEW NOTION OF CIRCUS EARLIER THIS WEEK: THE GAY CIRCUS. A SHOW OF WORLD CLASS QUALITY, AND WITHOUT DOUBT ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE EURO GAY GAMES 2008.
Already we are familiar with dance performances, theater, literature and cinema dedicated to gay culture, but now for the very first time, a circus has been created that is both a top quality show and a tribute and contribution to normalization of homosexuality. It took the organizers two years of preparation to guarantee a show of the highest quality, featuring 20 well-known international artist, including prize winners in the most important circus festivals worldwide. But they did it and from July 25 till 28, Gay Circus has been a huge success. The show was built on a basis of literature, painting, sculpture, photography and cinema. Sources and references that were translated in a careful staging where lights, costumes, stage effects and music wrapped the challenging physical performances of the acrobats and dancers. Among the artist you could find Anton Monastyrsky from Russia, Les Farfadais from France, I Pellegrini from Italy, Duo Sorellas from Germany and many more.
Gay Circus was a two hour show set within the framework of the Euro gay games 2008, that took place this week in Barcelona. 4 days, 9 shows in a tent with a 1300 capacity. It was a show to remember, and for those who didn’t have the opportunity to enjoy it, hopefully a show that will return. –B-
