WHEN WE FIRST INTRODUCED JACK MACKENROTH HERE ON BEAUTIFUL, WE ALREADY INDICATED HE IS A MAN OF MANY ACTIVITIES AND NOT SO EASY TO CATCH. WHEN YOU GET TO KNOW JACK A BIT BETTER, YOU REALIZE BEING BUSY REALLY IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT. WITH HIS ACTIVITIES IN DESIGN, SPORTS, TELEVISION AND HIV ACTIVISM, WE CAN ONLY DRAW ONE CONCLUSION, JACK MACKENROTH MUST HAVE SOME HIDDEN SUPER POWERS.
Almost twenty years ago, to be precise in 1990, Jack Mackenroth was diagnosed with HIV. Now we are pretty sure this must have come as quite a shock to Jack, but unlike many others in his situation Jack decided to grab life with both hands and make the best of it. And that is exactly what he did. A quick summary: in 1991 he moved from the west coast to New York to attend the prestigious Parsons School of Design. After graduation he opened his own menswear store in the uberchic West Village. In 1997 he accepted a design job with Tommy Hilfiger, and later on he moved to the Slates brand under the Levi’s umbrella. In 2007 jack participated in season 4 of the popular fashion design TV show Project Runaway, hosted by Heidi Klum. And while achieving all this, he also worked a successful career as fitness and fashion model, appearing in such magazines as Genre, Blue, Men’s Fitness, Envy and many others. Currently, besides doing various photo shoots, Jack has been working on a design TV show with fellow Project Runway alumni Kevin Christiana. They are in final stages of development and hope to finalize with a network in the next couple of months.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jack Mackenroth also gained national recognition as a competitive swimmer, winning three times the All American title, setting a national record in the breaststroke leg of the 4 x 50 meter medley relay in 2006, and finishing 12th at the Masters World Championships in that same year. Currently he is in training for the Outgames in Copenhagen in 2009. Jack has always been very open about his HIV status and has always tried to combat the stigma of HIV by living honestly and being a role model through his professional and athletic achievements. His name is linked to many HIV/AIDS charities and benefits. Currently Jack is working on an HIV education campaign called Living Positive By Design, which allows him to travel all over the US in order to speak about his experiences with HIV and encouraging HIV+ individuals to take steps in managing their disease.
Always happy to pick up new projects, recently Jack cooperated with up and coming photographer Brad Walsh. The Brad Walsh? Yes, the same person who has already gained well deserved recognition in the music industry, being responsible for one of the most downloaded remixes of Britney Spears comeback hit Womanizer and the original music featured at the successful runway shows of his partner, fashion designer Christian Siriano, during the 2008 New York Fashion Week. Brad is now also rapidly making name for himself as a fashion, editorial and portraits photographer. The cooperation with Jack Mackenroth is a great example of Brad’s photographic talent and we have no doubt that Jack’s stars will shine a lustrous light over Brad’s career. –B-
