RELAXATION. EROTICISM. MASCULINITY. STRENGTH. SEXUAL FANTASIES. THESE ARE THE INGREDIENTS OF A CONCEPTUAL VOYAGE PHOTOGRAPHER RICARDO LOUIS EMBARKED ON WHILE CREATING HIS SERIES NAMED SHAPE. A SENSUAL JOURNEY HE DID NOT UNDERTAKE ALONE. NO, HE DID IT WITH A HANDFUL OF BEAUTIFUL MEN, ALL OF DIFFERENT ETHNICITY. AND BY DOING SO HE CREATED A GALLERY OF PORTRAITS IN WHICH THE BORDERS OF CULTURAL AND RACIAL DIFFERENCES VANISH AND ALL THAT IS LEFT IS THE BEAUTY OF MEN IN THEIR MOST NATURAL SHAPE.
Ricardo Louis knows the discipline of working in photography as no other. Having been a print model himself, he knows exactly what he wants and how to get it. Ricardo loves photography and that shows through the personal touch in his work. His fascination with photography and his experience as model made the transition to behind the camera rather easy for him. And behind the camera is really where he wants to be. "Being able to take the viewer into a journey through photography is an incredible satisfying emotion," Ricardo explains. "Many photographers influenced me and I think my work represents somewhat a fusion of many of those styles while maintaining my originality and unique perception."
The artists that inspired Ricardo are talents like Steven Meisel, Steven Klein and Bruce Weber. Each one of them with a unique perspective and, like Ricardo Louis, an unusual, edgy and though provoking eye. Ricardo is based in New York City, where he produces his work of which many examples have been published in magazines like J’adore, Depesha, Blue and now also Beautiful. Even though Ricardo has primarily shot fashion over the past two years, he won’t walk away from an artistic project if it comes on his way. "The more challenging the project, the more excited I get; as I strive to acquire new skills on every shoot regardless of how easy it may seems. When shooting, I feed on the model/photographer exchange and the opportunity to contribute my vision of beauty to the world." As Ricardo shows so well in his exciting Shape series. –B-
