GREEK MYTHOLOGY KNOWS A HERO, A YOUNG MAN SO RENOWNED FOR HIS BEAUTY, THAT HIS STORY SURVIVED HISTORY AND WAS TOLD FOR MANY GENERATIONS IN JUST AS MANY DIFFERENT CIVILIZATIONS. BUT THE ORIGINAL TALE TELLS US HOW THIS YOUNG MAN CAME FROM THE TERRITORY OF THESPIAE AND HIS UNEARTHLY BEAUTY WAS SO ENCHANTING, IT GAVE HIM MANY ADMIRERS. THIS MAN WAS KNOWN BY THE NAME NARCISSUS.
Ameinias, one of Narcissus’ neighbors, was no exception. He was so engulfed with the beauty of Narcissus, that he could no longer control his feelings and ask the beautiful youngster to become his lover. But Narcissus knew how special he was and felt no one was good enough for him. In answer to Ameinias declaration of love, he sent him a dagger. Ameinias understood the hidden message, went to Narcissus’ home and killed himself on hi doorstep. But when the Gods heard about this tragedy, they become infuriated with the vanity of young Narcissus and cursed him to endure the same desperate feelings Ameinias and many others suffered from, without salvation. And so, one day when Narcissus saw himself in a mirror, he so much loved his reflection, he got obsessed with it, not being able to understand and accept it was an unreachable love.
Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all… mirrors and reflection, and everything they stand for, have been a source of inspiration ever since men first discovered the ability of reflecting surfaces, whether still water, silver plates or glass. Jorge Rivas has taken a great interest in mirrors and what they mean to us: "I think the mirror is a very important thing in our lives. Some of the hot moments we have by ourselves happen in front of a mirror. The mirror can keep a lot of very deep secrets about ourselves. Mirrors are essential in our lives, and as we know, a mirror’s reflection is more than just a flat image of us" Jorge is right in that. Reflections are thoughts and musing, echos and appearances. They can criticize, invite for study or make us dream. And so Jorge Rivas, photographer from Dallas, Texas, gave life to his Mirror Project, placing a variety of men in front of a mirror and let them experience and play with their reflection and image in what almost seems a most personal and intimate atmosphere. And what an image that is…
Jorge Rivas is relatively new in the shining world of flashlights and cameras. Still, active in both beauty and fashion photography, Jorge has already created name for himself by producing work of outstanding quality. His style is sensual and sexy and gives a whole new meaning to the concept of glamour. Mirror is a project he recently started. The first series was shot with Shane, who isn’t a professional model but just a guy Jorge met and asked to pose for him, and together they created a beautiful digital version of a modern day Narcissus. We are glad they did. –B-

Many people probably don't realize that when we view our reflection in a mirror, we are not seeing ourselves as others see us, because the image is reversed, left to right. To truly see ourselves as others see us, we have to view our reflection in a mirror after it has already been reflected by another mirror (a double reflection, in other words). When people try this, they are frequently quite shocked at their appearance, because all the asymmetries which may exist in their facial structure are suddenly made visible to them.
Scientific studies have been performed to try and determine why some faces are considered beautiful, while others are not. The consensus seems to be that perfectly symmetrical faces, that is, those that look identical when reflected by one or two mirrors, are the most beautiful, and those that are asymmetrical are perceived to be less beautiful.
So the old saying, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" appears to be true, and hopefully Jorge will continue to explore the Greeks tradition of pursuing beauty, finding it in the mirrored reflections of a modern day Narcissus.

The idea of reflection seemed very elegant ... The gallery, far from being cheap or average, is an invitation to the art of seduction and eroticism well run ... Maybe, why not, even the auto-eroticism ... It's the first thing I know from you in this current and without false praise, I can say: - It deserves an standing ovation -
Seguimos en linea.
