JEFFREY ALEXANDRE WAS BORN IN SEATTLE, WASHINGTON BUT MOVED HALFWAY THE COUNTRY AND NOW LIVES IN DALLAS, TEXAS. WHICH IS A GOOD THING FOR US, SINCE THIS IS ALSO THE HOME TOWN OF JORGE RIVAS, AND THE BASE FROM WHERE HE OPERATES HIS PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECTS. CAN YOU IMAGINE IF JEFFREY WOULD NEVER HAVE COME TO DALLAS? WHAT A LOSS THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN?

With this edition’s cover story we shine a light on two rising stars. First there is Jeffrey Alexandre, an educated young man, with a degree in biology and a minor in theater. Both disciplines come in handy when working with a creative person such as Jorge Rivas. Jorge likes to stage his models, creating small stories by doing so. So a certain amount of acting comes into place, as well as some knowledge about the human body. We are talking about male physique photography after all. And Jeff has a lot to give. On both fronts.

Some of Jeffrey’s favorite artists are Goldfrapp, Alphabeat and Lady Gaga. Specially that last one might be considered to have stand model when it comes to Jeff’s ability to change image through costume. Besides that, all we know about this handsome man is that he likes spending time running, traveling and stage acting. We don’t have much more to say about today’s cover boy, but we will make that up with some exciting information about the photographer.

The second star that deserves a place in today’s spotlight is Jorge Rivas. Over the past months we have been following with great excitement the development of this creative and talented man. The ex-medicine student-turned-photographer is hard on his way to become a top photographer. His outstanding work in both beauty and fashion photography, as well as his artistic work, are a clear indication Jorge has a shining path in front of him. Jorge recently returned from Malaysia, where he was invited by the Mexican Embassy to present the show ‘I’m Mexico’. ‘I’m Mexico’ is a series of 30 portraits that represent another face of Mexico. Being part of an international project, Jorge was the only photographer of Mexican origin and was give the chance to travel around Mexico for 3 month, documenting his vision.

Jorge Rivas is a busy man these days. Right upon his return to Dallas, he was approached by the association Aids Arms, who invited him to present a new project for summer 2010, ‘The Faces of Life’. This project will be a documentary that gives life to the many faces of AIDS in our daily lives, all seen through the photo and film cameras of Jorge Rivas. Tomorrow, on May 22, the official kick off of this project will be announced during a major media event in Dallas, and we will for sure keep you informed on this ambitious project.

Jorge Rivas’ work characterizes itself through its sobriety and simplicity, and the fact he uses men that never stood in front of the lens before. Jorge has the gift to make them feel at ease and make them look like professional models. It is only a matter of time before Jorge Rivas’ name and work will pop up in the international press and we are convinced Jorge will soon be offered the opportunity to publish his own photo book, immortalizing his vision in word and image. –B-
