After the unequaled success of his edgy debut book "Down The Rabbit Hole," Justin Monroe has now returned from his Wonderland and has embarked on yet another incredible journey through hyper-phallic landscapes. And where Justin was leading us the way through his first book as a sex-crazed White Rabbit, he now plays the role of a modern day toymaker, unleashing his wildest fantasies on us. We looked him up and found him most willing to give us a sneak peak in the factory of "Play Things."
Justin, tell us what inspired your new book "Play Things"?
Justin: "Play Things" is a look into a demented toy makers imagination as he works in his shop a short block form L.A's notorious Skid Row. He works deep into the night with nothing to break his concentration! He is driven by shear perversion and the need to bring his creations to life. Like a modern day Frankenstein, he creates nasty, naughty creatures he calls his children, and he sends them out into the world to find homes. To settle into people's cozy, sedate lives. eagerly awaiting, impatiently waiting until their evil plans are in place. Waiting until the moment arrives and he gives the signal… and then command to ATTACK!
How much nudity does the new book, "Play Things" have?
Justin: Absolutely as much as I can get away with.
Besides your usual selection of sexy models, you also feature many celebrities in this compilation. Who did you have the most fun working with?
Justin: I worked with Perez Hilton who was amazing to work with; he has a great sense of humor and is down right raunchy! The shoot was a blast!!!!!!! I have him as Humpty Bumpty, a cocaine sex addicted spoiled rotten egg! He comes into town for some champagne, cocaine, and hookers! NEEDLESS TO SAY WE HAD A BLAST SHOOTING PEREZ! :-)
So what does it take to be a Justin Monroe model?
Justin: I look for models that have more behind their eyes and their looks than just a hot body and a pretty face. I'm more interested in casting actors than models. People that make it believable, and can fall right into character, become more part of my vision. Fearlessness!
What can you tell us about your personal life, Justin? Like do you ever sleep with your models? It seems to us that your images involve a lot of sexual fantasies. Are these your fantasies or are they fabricated?
Justin: I'm definitely not going to answer that first question. And to answer the second one, many of my photographs are driven by my own personal desires. Sometimes they come from articles I read, people I see on the street, or dreams. And it all gets mixed up and thrown out of context in my head. And for some strange reason, it always returns to an erotic place.
When you go into a photo shoot, is it generally organic or is there a lot of preproduction involved?
Justin: The devil is in the details when it comes to highly conceptual photography. So you have to be super prepared. We usually have our shot list planned out. Sometimes even sketches and drawings come into play. But we always leave room for playing and experimenting. That's what makes it fun.
After the success of your first book, "Down the Rabbit Hole", with its highly fantasy driven and provocative content, how will your new book, "Play Things", compare?
Justin: The second book will be equally if not more alluring with its colorful pages. Look forward to a little bit more taboo content. Diving deep into the imagination, "Play Things" hits a tone with mixing childlike whimsy with extremely erotic content. It's like Madonna's Sex book clashed with Toy Story.
Finally, if you weren't a photographer, what would you be?
Justin: Porn Star. –B-
