SOMETIMES IT SEEMS THERE IS A PATTERN WHEN FOLLOWING THE PATH TO SUCCESS. IT ISN’T THAT OBVIOUS WHEN IT HAPPENS TO ONE, BUT BECOMES MORE CLEAR WHEN IT HAPPENS TO MULTIPLE PEOPLE. WHEN A PARALLEL CAN BE DRAWN. MAYBE AARON COBBETT IS GETTING TIRED OF BEING NAMED IN ONE BREATH WITH ANDY WARHOL, BUT ONE CAN’T HELP NOTICING THAT GREAT MINDS TRULY THINK ALIKE.
Just like Andy Warhol, Aaron Cobbett moved to New York City after he was born and raised in a mid-sized town. In Aaron’s case this was Rochester, NY. Just like Andy Warhol, Aaron Cobbett started his career in retail, after studying at NYU and Tisch School of the Arts. IN Aaron’s case this was in designing window displays fro high-end stores like Bergdorf Goodman. And just like Andy Warhol, Aaron Cobbett was intrigued by New York’s gay scene, inhabited by drag queens, punks and hustlers. But where Andy Warhol let things happen to pure coincident, Aaron Cobbett took control of his life and art into the tiniest details. Aaron signs of on every aspect of a setting, not matter whether it is building sets, adding a finishing touch to costumes and applying the most extravagant or elegant make up to his subjects. Aaron is a man who likes to take control.
According to his dealer Nick debs, Aaron Cobbett’s genius is "his ability to strip away the bullshit with which people surround themselves, find the soul inside, dress that soul as it really wants to be dressed, and record this flash of realness for the greater good." Over the years Aaron’s work has found its way into numerous international renowned magazines, such as Vogues, Vanity Fair, Glamour, TETU and Interview. So it is no wonder models and celebrities are lining up to work with an artist such as Aaron Cobbett.
One of Aaron Cobbett’s big successes was the shooting of the Queer As Folk ad campaign for which he ventured to Toronto. It was during this time he discovered how hot Canadian men actually are. According to Aaron they are "just a lot rougher around the edges, less primped and plucked than New York men." And this passion for Canadians was an open door for 19 years old Josh Boyd. Josh hails from Canada and is, according to Aaron, a natural when it comes to modeling. "His singular good looks don’t need much art direction, so I decided on a simple character driven concept for him, letting his eyes do the talking." Josh is a living example of what Aaron thinks of Canadian sexiness, and we couldn’t agree more. –BM-
