WE ALL KNOW THE LEGENDS OF ROMAN, GREEK AND NORWEGIAN GODS, BUT THEY WERE NOT THE ONLY DIVINE PANTHEON ON EARTH. FINLAND ONCE KNEW ITS OWN HOUSE OF GODS WHOSE ORIGIN, JUST LIKE THE OTHER DEITIES, IS SHROUDED IN LEGEND. WHAT WE DO KNOW IS THAT THE GODS OF FINLAND WERE SEEN AS SUPERHUMANLY POWERFUL HUMANOID BEINGS OF GREAT BEAUTY. AND THAT THEIR WORSHIPPERS SHARED TERRITORIES WITH THE GODS OF THE VIKINGS, GERMANS, CELTS, GAELS, RUSSIAN AND ROMANS. IN OTHER WORDS, IT SEEMS LIKE THE FINNISH GODS LIKED TO TRAVEL. THEY STILL DO.
Regardless whether there is a connection in origin or not, Scandinavian men are among the most beautiful that roam the face of our Earth. They are often well built, tall and strong and seem to descent directly from their divine ancestors. Ville Kinos is no exception. Ville stands 5' 8" tall, weights 172 lbs has cropped brown hair and piercing blue eyes. That in combination with his well muscled physique and free spirit makes Ville a modern day Lemminkainen, the epical handsome and romantic adventurer who originates from the Finish mythology. And like Lemminkainen, Ville Kinos likes to travel and explore new territories. This adventurous spirit brought Ville Kinos in contact with a variety of international photographers who all individually created series of portraits that show Ville in very different angles and situations.
Even though his name doesn’t give it away, Farrand Bloch is Dutch and lives in Wageningen, in the center of The Netherlands. Starting his job as a garden journalism he was asked to supply his own imagery and although passionate about landscapes and nature, he soon discovered men were much more interesting to photograph than trees. And so he shifted his interests and taught himself the craft of model photography, with a focus on artistic male nudes. "Getting started to scout young men was the toughest job. From the streets, shops, anywhere I tried to get hold on suitable models. All resulted in just harmless portraits, nothing nude yet. But on Internet things really started to get going." From self-taught photographer to having his own studio. Farrand did it. And he gained success and credibility due to his commitment to creating stunning images that clearly show a lot of study and preparation was done before the camera entered the scene. Farrand Bloch worked with Ville Kinos last year November and remember this cooperation with fondness and satisfaction. "Ville possesses a natural beauty, which fascinates me most in men. Ville’s blue eyes and melancholic stare fit perfect for the images I had in mind. For me it is all about wanting to touch but cannot, longing and searching for the perfect beauty. Contrasting features as sensuality against robust masculinity set in alienating surroundings. Letting go of your prejudices, shame and just do the picture."
Mircea Gheorghe discovered Ville Kinos on the website from Dylan Rosser. He laid one look on him and knew he had to work with the handsome Fin. Strangely enough Mircea was rather nervous when it finally came to a cooperation. But it is probably that innocent insecurity about his own abilities what characterizes Mircea Gheorghe as such a talented and creative photographer. Mircea has made it his goal to always try to shoot his subjects in a personal atmosphere. Almost as if he and his material weren’t even there. The result is series of sober, intimate and very personal portraits. An intimacy rarely seen in artistic portraits that does not only focus on the model itself, but is strongly influenced by light and shadow and the environment in which Mircea operates.
Countless hours of drawing, painting, sculpting and playing the guitar as a kid resulted eventually in becoming a world class self-taught photographer. Ville Paul, born in 1973 in Helsinki, sees himself as a renaissance man in a way Leonardo da Vinci was. Meaning, a man with many interests and lots of knowledge, a trialist curious for new things. His creative background now enables him to work for a large variety of clients. Fashion designers, artist portraits, commercials and album covers. You name it. Ville Paul takes on everything he believes could be a creative outlet for his talent. And not without success. The portraits he shot with Ville Kinos are characteristic for his style: "I love editorial fashion style with edgy strong shadows, powerful poses and simple minimalistic compositions, freezing movement, clear grey or white backgrounds, warm tones and sharp detailed textures." Shooting Ville Kinos was almost a trip down memory lane for Ville Paul, bringing him all the way back to his childhood years of painting and sculpting: "Photographing such a lean and great figure as Ville has is like being a sculptor. Ville's well defined muscles produce great shadows and highlights when lit with a sharp strong key light from the side. For a photographer it is easy to get great results with him."
Like a god from the Finnish legends, Ville Kinos roams the Earth and he leaves his marks wherever he goes. Wherever he goes, he meets his creative counter parts who immortalize him all in their own style, putting a signature on work that shows different sides of Ville. We are convinced Ville Kinos will add many more photogrpahers to his portfolio. After all, who wouldn’t want to be touched by divinity. –BM-
