IN THE COMMUNE DE HUEZ IN THE FRENCH RHONE-ALPES REGION, AT A HEIGHT OF BETWEEN 1,860 TO 3,330 METRES (6,100 TO 10,930 FT) YOU FIND L’ALPE D’HUEZ. ALREADY KNOWN AS BEING ONE OF EUROPE’S PREMIER SKIING VENUES, THIS WINTER THE WORLD WILL SEE ALPE D’HUEZ IN A VERY DIFFERENT LIGHT. BECAUSE THIS SEASON IT WILL BE HOME FOR THE EUROPEAN GAY SKI WEEK 2011.
After three successful years in Tignes, the organization of the European Gay Ski Week decided it was time to explore new horizons. And new slopes. Which they found in the welcoming embrace of Alpe d’Huez. This resort is one of Europe’s premier skiing venues, with a total of 269 km of piste and 84 ski lifts, offering plenty of ski and snowboard opportunity for experienced as well as beginning snow sports practisers. The EGSW is convinced Alpe d’Huez has got what it takes to live up to the expectation of the organization and the many yearly participants and guarantees that 2011 will see the best European Gay Ski Week in history so far.
Whether you are serious skiers and boarders or fairly new to a blow in the snow the Alpe d’Huez is for you. The beginners slopes just above the village are amongst the most expansive and easily accessible nursery slopes the EGSW team have come across. There is also a beginners snowpark. Some of Europe’s most beautiful wide open pistes and wonderous tree lined runs are here and offer great days for Intermediates. Then for the fearless and most competent snow huggers there is La Sarenne, at 17km, the longest black run in Europe and also the famously infamous 'Tunnel'. In fact there are 4 major runs all with non stop vertical decents of over 2000 meters. In addition to this there are vast areas of fantasic off-piste and an 'experts' Snow park.
Those who've been with EGSW before know that the this annual event isn’t just about skiing and boarding but is one of the year's best international homo-social events and, whilst they never forget you come to make the most of the snow, they do want to make your play-time party-time. Therefore the organization will be creating ingeniously unique and most memorable events in the great selection of clubs, bars and restaurants throughout the village and on the mountains, including several different après-ski events - one of them in a steamy hammam. Already confirmed parties are Trade, Lovechild, Red & Blue, Bear Necessity, Crazyvores, Primanotte. and the famous EGSW Snowball Party. And among the confirmed DJ’s we find famous names such as Steven Rendant, Pagano, Steve Thomas and Lady Alexandra.
With packages for all pockets and every level of experience - both on piste and off – the European Gay Ski Week is good fun and good value. European Gay Ski Week offers an easy to navigate website that gives all the information you need, including accommodations and prices.
