BOXING IS ONE OF THE OLDEST, IF NOT THE OLDEST, CONTACT SPORT WE KNOW. FIRST SIGNS OF TWO MEN IN FIST FIGHTINH COMBAT DATE BACK TO THE 3RD MILLENNIUM BC AND SINCE THEN NOTHING MUCH HAS CHANGED. EXCEPT MAYBE THE OUTFITS AND THE NICKNAMES OF THE ATHLETES.

Personally we are no big fan of boxing. Except maybe when it comes to having the change to glance at some bulging muscles. And the nick names the athletes use. I don’t think there is any other sport in which the athletes chosen name plays such an important role. And even though it is said that the boxers nickname is chosen for better recognition and promotional purpose, we tend to believe there is also a bit of boastfulness and egotism. Maybe the men need to be reassured of their own strength and abilities before entering the ring.

Hard Rock, Explosive Thin Man, Bigfoot, Butterbean…. These are but a few of the nicknames that are considered to be among the greatest in the boxing world. And hearing or seeing them, one wonders what makes someone choose a name like that. True, Bigfoot or Explosive Thin Man seems pretty self-explanatory, but Butterbean? Most of the time a boxers nickname is related to a typical characteristic. Something that makes the man really stand out from his competitors. And so when Gert Kist decided to photograph Maarten in boxing outfit, we took it upon us to find him a matching name. Having seen more from Maarten than what we could show here, it wasn’t such a difficult task. We baptized him Mighty Maarten, and this does not only refer to his well developed pecs.

If you think Maarten looks familiar, you are right. He has graced our digital pages before. In June 2010 we introduced you to the 23 years old dancer and barman from Antwerp, Belgium in a photo set created by Malemodel’s Gert Kist. That series was shot outside, in the beautiful nature of the Dutch Vinkeveense Plassen. And although the scenery indicated the temperature wasn’t too high, Maarten himself didn’t show any signs of being cold. On the contrary. He seemed to be in perfect shape. As he is now. Maarten is one of the more popular guys on Gert’s Malemodel.nl and for gert a willing partner to try new concepts and settings. Such as this boxer concept. As I said before, we are no fan of the sport, but have to admit, Mighty Maarten is a real knockout. –BM-

I'm impressed with this model's lats development. Not very typical of a genuine boxer, and who's complaining? Maybe another shoot highlighting those areas?
