ITALY, MAY 2011. IT IS ONE LATE AFTERNOON WHEN A SMALL GROUP OF MEN WALK THE STREETS OF FERRARA. AMONG THEM ARE MUSTAFA SABBAGH, PHOTOGRAPHER, AND PEDRAG PAJDIC, ART DIRECTOR. THEIR GOAL: THE MASSARI GARDENS. THEIR OBJECTIVE: THE VISUALIZATION OF A DREAM ONE OF THEM ONCE HAD. A DREAM THAT REQUIRES SERENITY, OBJECTIVITY AND AN OPEN MIND. NOT ONLY OF THE TWO ARTISTS, BUT ALSO OF THE 4 MODELS THEY CASTED TO HELP IMMORTALIZING THIS PROJECT.
Pedrag Paidic had a dream. The dream was placed in a magical garden. A place where young men would go in order to be initiated in manhood. Where they would experience a long day, indulging in various arts and sports not unlike the old Greek once did on their Olympic fields. And during this day of intense training, they would learn to respect each other. Admire each other. Once exhausted they would fall into a deep sleep… only to wake up the next day as real men.
Predrag Pajdic is a London based artist, designer, and curator, who organizes high profile art projects internationally as well as writes and lectures on contemporary art and culture. Holding an MA in History of Art from the Courtauld Institute of Art and a BA in fashion design from Central ST Martins in London, Predrag contributes to many international publications and is art director of the International Festival of Contemporary Art that takes place every year in October in Ljubljana, Slovenia. But that is not all the artist of Yugoslavian origin does. Predrag is known for his ability to put together impressive art shows that often tackle heavyweight subjects. How Gay Are Your Genes?, Images You Would Never Watch On TV and his impressive curates show Paranoia are but 3 of a long list of extra ordinary accomplishments of shows Predrag Pajdic put together and that, besides showing a variety of outstanding art, all touch subjects that concern us all. Together with Mustafa Sabbagh, Predrag currently works on the project I Am Calling Out In My Dreams, that will result in a book and a number of exhibitions worldwide.
Mustafa Sabbagh was born in Jordan but is to all intents and purposes Italian, having lived there since 1979. Mustafa holds a degree in Architecture but found his real calling in photography, which he has practiced every since he found an old Polaroid camera in a drawer at his aunt’s place. “Taking the first picture was as having the best orgasm imaginable. I have never stopped taking pictures since. Photography is not simple something you can just learn, it is a need deeply buried in you, something you have to do.” And Mustafa did it. First as a assistant to Richard Avedon for two years, and than independent, finding inspiration in Caravaggio painting, Antonioni’s films, architecture, fetishism and cyber sex. “For me photography is more about studying people, humankind with all their perversions… something I will be fascinated with forever.”
Predrag Pajdic is drawn to light but rarely seen outside of the shadows. A man of contrast, he wears sneakers to a business meetings and black tie to a night club. Always on the move, always involved in yet another project, Predrag is the master of ceremonies of The Pandorian, a testimony to his visionary art. Dreamer and creator, he surrounds himself with extra ordinary artists, such as Mustafa Sabbagh, and beautiful people, such as Andrea, Tom, Francesco Ferrari and Michael Fleisher, the 4 men who have become the bodies and faces of his recent project Ahead Of Their Time: The White Series. Predrag Pajdic is a catalyst. A man who moves things and makes us see in different light. A mean who dares to dream and allows us to participate. –BM-
