"SO MUCH LIFE AFTER SO MUCH DEATH. SO MUCH DREAMLIKE REALITY AFTER SO MUCH CRUEL CERTAINTY. LIGHT AFTER YOUR EYES HAVE CLOSED. FRAGILITY EXPOSED, DISGUISED AS STRENGTH. IT IS CLOUDY AND MUDDY, YET CLEAN AND TRANSPARENT. A PERFECT CONTRADICTION PURPOSELY THROWN TO EXHIBIT A DREAM THAT IS A REALITY." – written by Christian M.S. -
When we first introduced Diego Lema to you back in 2007 we predicted it would not be for long before the whole world would hear about this Argentine artist. We prophesied Diego would become a big name in the art world. Then why is it, you wonder, that his name is still only known for those who are really in the know? The answer is simple. Diego Lema is humble. His modesty prevents his fame from growing to astronomic heights. And that coyness is exactly what makes Diego Lema such an outstanding artist. That and his unlimited, incredible talent to see and visualize things as not many others can.
Diego Lema started his career in photography on the other side of the camera. His handsome looks made him a well sought after model, and when eventually he picked up a camera himself and started experimenting with taking pictures, he used that experience of modeling in developing his own unique style. Diego Lema became his own muse. He didn’t do this because he was obsessed with his own image. No, he did it out of necessity. He knew that in order to become known as photographer he had to build a portfolio. He also knew out of experience how difficult it is as a new photographer to build relationships with models. And thus he experimented with himself. Exploring the unknown territory of taking photos and developing his sense for aesthetics and his ability to capture stunning portraits on the way.
Over the past few years Diego Lema has started working with other models than himself. One of them legendary adult entertainer Dionisio Heiderscheid. Dionisio – D.O. for his friends and fans – is one of the few, if not the only, who consciously decided to swap a successful mainstream modeling career for a livelihood in the gay adult industry. And when he did it, he did it with class and style. At the same time D.O. is still active as fashion model as well, popular by many photographers and fashion names who care little for the more kinky side of his career. The films he made are among the better ones and while making his name in the glamour industry, he also distinguished himself by working with many renowned photographers, transforming himself into a well-sought after artistic model. You are most likely familiar with his self-published coffee table book Freedom-The Book, for which he cooperated with a rare selection of the masters of erotic male photography. About his book concept D.O. said: "Life has taught me that us, human beings, are much more than what we do for a living, or by what means we survive out there. Life is as beautiful as we allow it to be, as we believe it could possibly be, as we trust, as we keep fighting to stay here. My most sincere and honest wish is to be able to express my deepest thoughts of freedom in the most transparent and yet efficient way known to me, through art."
Maybe it is because they both come from Argentina. Maybe it is just because they are both beautiful people true artists with an intense desire to create beauty. Whatever the reason, whenever Diego Lema and Dionisio Heiderscheid come together, chemistry happens, resulting in a miraculous venture. Encarnación is one of those adventures both artists embarked upon. In Encarnación, D.O. is a man reincarnated as a faun. A protector more than a hunter with an anger caused by the extinction of animals at the hands of mankind. Diego Lema: "Encarnación is a surreal tale in a space where the conscience fro nature is being brought to life. D.O. is being reborn as a mythological being. Half man, half animal he feels the animal’s pain and makes the suffering his own. Alone (lonely) in the woods, rid of his clothing (skin) and desperately looking for justice, he accepts and recognizes mans faults." –BM-

I am so thrilled by these images!
Dionisio and Diego wonderfully evoked the mythic/archetypal with this work.
It is so refreshing, to me, to see such imaginative photography centered around the male nude.
Bravo!!
