We have a friend with the cutest dog ever. Our friend lives alone but claims to have whole conversations with his dog. At first I thought this was strange since she doesn’t talk back. But then I realized she is actually giving it attention and pretends to understand. I also realized it is not such strange behavior. I actually saw many dog-owners – and dogs - do the same thing. It made me think about communication and once you are in that place you actually start to notice things that are much more strange. People walking the street whom at first glance have whole conversations with themselves, if it wasn’t for that little earpiece that connects them with their cell and, presumably, someone on the other side of the connection. What is worse is those millions who tweet the most useless information every second of the day and send it into the ether regardless if someone is listening or even interested in what they have to say. We all want to make some noise.
But to bring this full circle it brought me back to what we are doing here. We write and share our thoughts and when you think about it, it is even worse than Twitter. At least a tweet is limited to an amount of characters where our medium allows me to ramble on and on. I guess my computer is something like a dog. It sits there and listens to me and pretends to understand. The only difference is I don’t have to walk it (yes I do feed it). So I do have to say, we are always glad with your responses. It means someone is actually reading us and that gives that computer screen a more or less human face. –BM-
