THESE DAYS WE KNOW THE SPHINX TO BE A SILENT MYSTERY. A REMNANT OF A HISTORY HIDDEN BEHIND A VEIL OF TIME. BUT ONCE THE SPHINX WAS A PART OF A CULTURE. AN ENTITY THAT WAS LOOKED UPON TO BE SOMETHING OF GREAT WISDOM. THE SPHINX. RIDDLE ASKER. ALL KNOWER. ORACLE. PROTECTOR OF ART AND WISDOM. THE ONE WITH ANSWERS TO EVERYTHING, BUT WISELY SHARED ITS KNOWLEDGE ONLY WITH THOSE WORTHY.
Thomas Bourry is a photographer with an opinion. Thomas doesn’t believe that a photo can be natural or realistic. He believes each image is a construction. “The frame always creates a specific reality,” he explains. “The world becomes an icon with its own rules and meaning. At the end the best pictures are those which tell a story.” This is the rule Thomas Bourry applies in his photography. This is the wisdom of the Sphinx, which is the name under which creates his art.
Thomas Bourry is no stranger on BeautifulMag. We have had the pleasure to enjoy his black and white portraiture on several occasions already. One thing we can se while looking back at previous features is a constant style in his work. Indeed, and just like the Sphinx, Thomas protects his artistic vision and maintains a constant style that has resulted in an impressive portfolio of photographs. A portfolio in which each portrait tells its own story but, due to Thomas’ consistency, has become a visual poetry book.
It is no surprise for us that Thomas Bourry has found a possibility to publish his work. If anything, it is a surprise this didn’t happen before. Thomas’ work deserves to be published and deserves to be admired. And as of now you can do exactly that with the Meeting Sphinx 2012 calendar. Thomas Bourry’s calendar is a limited edition publication. A well-composed collection of some of Thomas’ finest portraits, the calendar holds both something old and something new. With Meeting Sphinx Thomas Bourry has created the unique opportunity to own some of his finest work, allowing you to look upon those stunning portraits every day and discover the silent stories they tell. Mysterious and provocative. Just like the Sphinx.
