AN ARTIST'S WORK SPARKS A THOUGHT, A FEELING, AN EMOTION. PERHAPS IT'S DUE TO A CURVE, AN ANGLE, OR A SHADOW. MAYBE IT'S THE WAY THE SUBJECT IS CAPTURED IN THE LIGHT OR THE WAY THE LIGHT REFLECTS OR GLISTENS. THESE ARE JUST A FEW OF THE DETAILS THAT RUN THROUGH THE EVER-RACING MIND OF KEVIN D. HOOVER. "MY GOAL IS NEVER TO JUST TAKE A PRETTY PICTURE. I DESIRE TO CAPTURE A MOMENT. I WISH TO PROVOKE A THOUGHT OR AN EMOTION. IF THE IMAGES MAKE YOU FEEL HAPPY OR SAD OR LUSTFUL OR ANGRY, THEN THE SHOOT WAS A SUCCESS. BUT IT MUST MAKE YOU FEEL." 

Kevin Hoover believes that in order for this to take place, a connection must happen between subject and artist that is based upon trust and mutual respect. "I'm very protective of my guys (models). I try to create an atmosphere that is safe, secure, calm and extremely laid back.  While yes, we are working, there is no reason the experience should not be enjoyable for both parties. It's about building relationships that can be revisited repeatedly. I never ask anything of my models that makes them feel uncomfortable or exploited. I have them bring their favourite music to help get them in the zone. Again, creating the right atmosphere. Then, we get to work and I try to tap into that persona that wants to reveal itself to my camera. The actor, the singer, the dancer, the comedian, the scholar, the heartbroken lover, the sex symbol. And it's always there, waiting in the wings for the opportunity to be centre stage."  

A perfect example is Dennis. To look at this stunning series of portraits, you would never guess that Dennis isn't a model. His handsome face and lean physique are those of a man who should often be featured in European fashion magazines, but this is not the case. Dennis has chosen a career path that does not place him in the public eye, and yet just below the surface, that other persona is ready to take control and be seen. "Shortly after the camera came on, the Dennis I'd spoken to on the phone and chatted with online disappeared. What emerged in front of me was a man that radiated a raw sexual energy. You could see it in his eyes, in his body language. It radiate from beneath his skin. And as the session went on, each image was even more breathtaking than the one before it."

Kevin Hoover is a New York based photographer who is specialized in fitness photography and cityscapes. In other words, he has a passion for capturing the beauty of the male form as well as that of urban architecture. His love for curves, angles and shadows are perfectly translated in his work with Dennis. With the way the light reflects and glistens on Dennis' body, these erotic portraits definitely spark feelings thoughts and emotions. Moments in time have been captured and Kevin was able to reveal what lies beneath. Success. –BM-

Dennis has a pleasant undeveloped body, which he is wisely keeping slender, as anyone approaching middle-age should do.

I know that abundant body and facial hair is your, and the world's, utter delight.

Dennis has surely kept most of his--which should please you and the world very much.

But he has shaved the very spot which I
wish he had left alone--his formerly beautiful forest of black pubes has been
mowed down to virtually nothing.

Kevin Hoover is a fine photographer, and I am sure that Dennis is a fine accountant, or whatever. That is as it should be.
