Roberto Chiovitti’s idea behind Disclosed desires was to portray what it is to follow our animal instincts. Our deepest desires. His intention was to translate his erotic fantasies into photographs while simultaneously displaying other men’s secrets. “I wanted the men in this book to let their deepest dreams become mine and vice versa.”

Roberto Chiovitti, born in Rome in 1972, has always been fascinated with images but didn’t expect that photography would become his life. He likes to catch the male beauty and the male form since the beginning of his career. But more than beauty, Roberto searches for attitude in his models. And starting from that quest, Roberto Chiovitti discovered he was able to get to the deeper desires and fantasies of the men he works with. And now, with his first photo book, Roberto has created a dedication to this darker side of desire that he discovered under the surface of so much beauty.

Disclosed Desires tell tales of lust and pain, of dominance and submission. These images are rough and dark, but Roberto Chiovitti’s works also have a very elaborate approach: The pictures are staged very clever, provoking and unusual. “I always try to photograph men who excite me, who can catch my eye not only for their physical appearance but also for who they are. I usually find my models on the web or in the streets, and I like it if they never modeled before. Those are the most spontaneous in front of my camera.”

Besides anonymous men, Roberto Chiovitti also likes to work with porn actors. Simply because they so well represent that pure sexuality Roberto is looking for. For his book he asked all the men to put someone else’s clothes on, even if they had to be naked or almost naked. He wanted his men to play a role and let themselves get carried away with it. Though many portraits in Disclosed desires contain leather and fetish gear, mot of the models are not into it. But it was Roberto’s objective to bring their most kinky alter-ego’s out. He was surprised to see how one can change his sexual behavior just by wearing a fetish accessory, a simple leather band, holding a wip or being chained. “All the guys have shown me their dark side, something they didn‘t even expect. My fantasies became reality, became images—are not stuck in my mind anymore. I feel naked now too. Some of my desires are finally disclosed!” -BM-
