Born and raised in Mexico City, Roberto Araujo moved to New York City to pursue a long cherished dream. Roberto wanted t become an actor. And so he gave it all he got. And succeeded. However, the more he learned about being an actor, the more he also realized that his passion for visual arts was not only limited to stage and in front of the camera work. Roberto discovered a passion for photography that had slumbered under his skin ever since he was a kid already.
Growing up in Mexico City Roberto Araujo quite physically got involved in photography at young age already. He owned his first camera in the mid 1990’s. A 110mm camera that super imposed the image of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on to a picture. After, when his older sister embarked on a photography study and used Roberto as a model for her school projects, he inadvertently started to learn the basics of 35mm photography. Visual arts have always been of great interest for Roberto, but it wasn’t before he was touring in China with a show he was acting in that he seriously started to explore the potential of his abilities as a photographer.
What simply started as taking pictures developed for Roberto Araujo into the passion of capturing moments. “I have been a long time follower of BeautifulMag and the work showcased there has served as inspiration for me to continue to explore the endless possibilities that the male form gives the photographer,” he says about his choice of subject. Building on his knowledge of 35mm; he made a smooth transition into digital photography and discovered this opened a whole new range of possibilities. “Through my work I strive to create images that not only are appealing to the eye, but also tell a story. The narrative aspect is very important to me. Each image has its own voice. My models are not interchangeable bodies. They are individuals with specific characteristics and talents. They bring their best to the picture and it's my job to capture them at its prime.”
Robert Araujo's work is sexy, playful and bright. More over, it is also refreshing. He aspires to create images that answer to those characteristics, portraying his models as they truly are. His experience in acting has taught him the importance of good portraits that speak for themselves. To create photos that represents the full spectrum of attributes that make a personality. In relatively short time, Roberto has become an authority on making photographs that vary from headshots to artistic portraits and fashion. He has come a long way from his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. –BM-
