No one ever said that life is easy and that if you want to succeed in something and stand out from the rest it will come without hardship. A career in entertainment seems to glamorous but it requires a very strong discipline and dedication. It is hard work, almost to be compared to physical punishment.
German Velasquez was born and raised in Medellin, the second largest city in Colombia. He hasn’t always lived here. German ventured to New York City where he studied photography at the NYC School of Visual Arts, but, loyal to his roots, he returned to Medellin afterwards where he made name for himself as a fantastic commercial and artistic photographer. German has learned the art the hard way. In the beginning of his career he worked only analog, meaning with film, paper and developer fluids. Since then he had embraced also the art of digital photography, but his conventional training has given him a solid and honest foundation, which clearly shows in his work.
Together with model Federico Maso, German Velasquez created a series that is almost an ode to the art of dancing. Federico poses in a sequel that shows his character as a center stage performer towards the end where the pain and suffering from practice and discipline emerges. A strong series that shows the both sides of the glamorous world of entertaining. Which is amplified by the usage of specific props.
Set against a dramatic dark backdrop, highlighted with golden speckles of light, Federico, who originates from Bogota, Colombia, becomes a piece of art. Immaculate in shape and posture, he perfectly hides the suffering he has to go through to reach that state of absolute perfection. The pain, the hardship and punishment of total dedication. –BM-
