Gustavo Marcolla is 36 year old and lives in London. But that has not always been the case. Gustavo is from Italian origin and was born and raised in Brazil. In 2007 he moved to Los Angeles where he first came in contact with modeling. It was a chance encounter as modeling wasn’t really something Gustavo had his mind set upon. His first passion is screenwriting.
So it came to happen that Gustavo Marcolla stood in front of a camera for the first time in 2007, which rapidly led to invitation for shoots from several local photographers. Always trying to do thing the right way, Gustavo decided to try to sign up with an agency, which launched his modeling career in larger circles. Gustavo’s name became known in the industry and soon renowned photographers such as Kevin McDermott, Eric Schwabel, Rick Day and Wander Aquiar were lining up to work with the handsome Brazilian. And no wonder as Gustavo has not only what it takes to be a model in the physical department. He is also good-natured, professional and always winning to learn. And he came to know for himself that he loves being photographed.
About 4 months ago, Gustavo Marcolla moved continent once again and settled down in London. It was then that he came in contact with Mircius Aecrim. Mircius, living in Romania, knew Gustavo through Model Mayhem and when he learned the model/screenwriter moved to the UK, he contacted him with a proposal to work together. Now Mircius is not the average photographer. His intimate approach and great compositions have stunned many fan already, both amateur and professional. So when Gustavo learned Mircius was interested in collaborating, he didn’t have to think twice. Except, he also know Mircius has a preference of shooting his subject in a homely atmosphere, and he actually lived in a tiny studio. Still they decided to meet there.
To Gustavo’s surprise Mircius didn’t see the small size of his studio. What Mircius saw was a place where someone lived. Where he wakes up every morning to start his day, comes home after work and lives his private life away from the eyes of everyone else. And so it was decided that Mircius would photograph Gustavo in his studio. “It’s amazing what he (Mircius) was able to do with such a small place,” says Gustavo. “I think my favorite thing about the shoot is the fact I didn’t have to pose. His perspective was almost the perspective of a voyeur, so I could be natural, like if he wasn’t even there.” And that is exactly the style that we have come to know so well from Mircius Aecrim. Not only in his artistic work, but also in his event photography as he proofed also while being the official photographer for the 2013 European Snow Pride event that took place last week in Tignes Val Claret, France. –BM-
