Born in Norfolk, Virginia, Dr. Woody Norvell started out to be a musician, earning a BA, an MA and a Doctor of Musical Arts in the field. He has worked as a singer, conductor, arranger and composer, writing works for symphony orchestra, chamber ensembles and jazz bands. Woody’s photographic career dates to October 2009 when he was asked to do a shoot for a friend. Woody Norvell is largely self-taught and has built his own studio, complete with a lighting system, at his home in Norfolk.
Modest as he is Woody Norvell strongly believes in the idiom “credit to whom credit is due” and so he will always make sure that everyone knows all the ins and outs of the models he works with. Of course he also protects those whose names cannot be used, but in all other cases he things that the models should be credited alongside the photographer as they are as big a part of the final result as the man who handles the camera. And he is right of course. After all, there would not be a shoot without them.
Woody Norvell has been so fortunate to work with some wonderful models. One of his first was Rico Garcia, also features on BeautifulMag in Tony Veloz’s Candy Store. Woody was the first to work with Rico and essentially got him started in the modeling industry. Tom Cole, originally from Virginia, now lives in New York. Recently he featured in the Serendipidy video with Jersey Shores, Angelina Pivarnick and Adam Barta. He can also be seen on the Model Behavior website, in shoots by Grant Turner and Jimmy Hardy. Dancer and author Christian Lezill is working on his Masters degree at George Mason University. He already has 3 books of poetry published and is about to release a 4th. And finally Darwin Richard, who is in the Unites States Navy and a NPC Fitness champion.
Woody Norvell does not only like to shoot his models, he also likes to get to know them better and share that with his audience. For sure that is one of the reasons why he is so popular among models. –BM-
