Dylan Rosser has been photographing for quiet some of years now and has in that period of time gathered a huge gallery of pictures. With those pictures Dylan has released a firm handful of quality photo books. 2008 saw the release of Xposed, Dylan’s first solo book named after his former website. Red, more than just a parade of beautiful men in beautiful photos, followed in 2009. And one year later, Dylan self published his book 100, dedicated to the fact he had shot 100 models up to that date. That is by now 3 years ago so you can imagine how his gallery has grown ever since. Publishing books isn’t as easy as it seems, especially considering the huge competition out there. The fact Dylan published 3 is quite exceptional, but for the South African photographer from London no reason to stop. November 2011 Dylan released Naked, his fourth book dedicated to the obvious theme. And now there is Full Frontal.
Full Frontal is not just a photo book. Full colour with 160 pages, Full Frontal is Dylan Rosser’s compilation of his best work ever. That by itself is already quite exceptional. First of all, I have never seen a best of book from a photographer of the male form. Secondly and more amazingly, I simply cannot imagine how Dylan could have made the cut to 160 pages. Scrolling through his online portfolio it soon becomes abundantly clear all his photos are better than best, so how on earth can one make a selection of the best of the best? Nevertheless Dylan did it. More over, he allows us a glance in his closed kitchen. His room of secrets normally only available for those privileged ones that have a membership to Dylan’s Male Form website.
Now we know that most of you, if not all, owns at least one of Dylan Rosser’s awesome photo books. If not so, shame on you. The fact that you do however should not be a reason to not purchase Full Frontal. Consider it a best of album of your favorite band. You have all the records, but it’s still nice to have one that holds all those classics together. Full frontal is exactly that. A trip down memory lane where you can meet those perfect specimen of male beauty one more time. Dylan Rosser is a creative guy and a busy bee, so I won’t say Full Frontal is the crown on his work. There is more to come. But if not the crown, than definitely one of the most precious jewels in that ultimate noble headpiece. –BM-
