THERE ARE CERTAIN PLACES IN THE WORLD THAT FOR ONE REASON OR THE OTHER HAVE AN IRRESISTIBLE MAGNETIC ATTRACTION. SINGAPORE, DUBAI, BANGKOK AND KUALA LUMPUR ARE HIGH PLACED ON THE LIST OF MOST VISITED CITIES IN THE WORLD. BUT ALSO CLASSICS SUCH AS ISTANBUL, LONDON AND NEW YORK. BUT THE ABSOLUTE TOPPER, FOR MANY YEARS ALREADY, IS THE CAPITAL CITY OF FRANCE: PARIS. THE LOUVRE, THE NOTRE DAME CATHEDRAL, THE EIFFEL TOWER. THEY ALL CONTRIBUTE TO THE ONGOING SUCCESS OF PARIS AS MOST POPULAR CITY DESTINATION.
Even though Paris suffers from overpopulation and social misbehaviour, just like many other big cities, it is still one of the most magnificent cities in the world. Of course the many legendary monuments that are spread out like precious jewels on the banks of the Seine river are responsible for that success. But also the imposing and elegant buildings and boulevards, laid out during the reign of Napoleon III by Baron Haussmann. These buildings that, back in the 19th century, transformed Paris from a chaotic medieval city into a modern metropolis, are not only built to impress. They also have a sophistication and elegance that, though copied many times, do not find their equal anywhere else in the world.
One of the largest open squares in Paris is the Place de la Republique. Laid out during the Second French Empire, the freshly renovated square is dominated by the bronze statute of Marianne, symbol of the French values of freedom, brotherhood and equality, the Caserne Vérines that houses the French National Guard and the magnificent Crown Plaza hotel which was originally built as the first department store ever. But also the rows of majestic Haussmann apartment buildings. It was here, in one of those apartments, that French photographer Alex S. recently photographed Armando Santos.
Alex S. is a young photographer who makes his debut on BeautifulMag with this series featuring Armando Santos. Only 21 years old, Alex started his career in photography when he was 18. Now, 3 years later he is classified as a professional photographer and his work truly shows for it. Whether its portraiture or artistic photography, Alex S. shows a maturity seldom seen for a photographer that young in his career, and his work breathes an international allure that could easily make you believe we are dealing with a glamour and fashion veteran. Though not at all living in Paris – Alex resides in the sunny south of France – he was able with this set to capture the Parisian spirit with finesse and elegance. And that characterizes a pro.
Though not a pro himself, Armando Santos most certainly acts like one. Armando is not unknown for the regular BM visitors. We have been able to enjoy this beautiful man in work by HdeLuxe, Mircius Aecrim and Exterface on numerous occasions. Armando is also a figurehead in several gay oriented associations and events and participated to both Mister Gay Europe and World contests last year, after which he founded the Comite Mr Gay France. Armando has been modelling for several years now and does it with an ease many professional models can be jealous of. Of course the fact he possesses a good deal of sex-appeal helps. It wasn’t the first time Armando featured in a shoot executed in this very same location. Mircius Aecrim’s View On Paris, Vol. 3, shows the young Parisian in the same apartment. But how interesting is it to see the constrast in style of photographer and – yes - modelling ability of Armando Santos that make those two shoots so very different. Where Mircius’ created an atmosphere of intimacy and nostalgia, Alex S. places Armando Santos in an ambiance of majesty and grandeur, using the exact same background. A true homage to the French Empire and a triumph for both Alex S. and Armando Santos. –BM-
