WHEN STEVEN SPIELBERG DIRECTED HIS JURASSIC PARK BACK IN 1993 HE UNKNOWINGLY UNCHAINED A WORLDWIDE REACTION AND OBSESSION FOR DINOSAURS. THE MASSIVE BLOCKBUSTER CAUSED AN INTEREST FOR THE PREHISTORIC REPTILES AS NONE HAD EVER BEFORE AND MANY CHILDREN ALL OVER THE WORLD STARTED COLLECTING SMALL PLASTIC REPLICA'S OF THE GIANT REPTILES AS THEIR FAVOURITE TOYS. FOR MOST OF THEM THAT'S AS FAR AS IT WENT. BUT NOT OF FOR ALL.
Francesco Gasco is a 31 years old male model coming from Valencia, the third largest city in Spain. Francesco was one of those boys who, at the age of 7, got obsessed by dinosaurs. But unlike other boys, the interest in the prehistoric reptiles never left Francesco. On the contrary. It became such a big part of him that he decided to become a biologist. Currently he is finishing his Ph.D in paleontology.
Francesco has more passions than dinosaurs. He is clearly also keen on staying fit. His obvious work out regime has resulted in a well built and fit body, which earned him a semifinalist place in the 2013 Men's Health election. Shortly after that he met photographer Pascual Ibañez and discovered the world of modeling. Currently he resides in Madrid.
We have seen work form Pascual Ibañez on numerous occasions here on BM. And everytime he surprises us with strong masculine and handsome men in sober, often nature inspired surroundings. Pascual grew up in the surroundings of Valencia where his first experience with photography was taking pictures underground, exploring the many ancient caves Valencia is so famous for. Working in these places where no daylight ever pierces the eternal darkness, he learned how to play with light and shadows and applies that technique still today in his wonderful art.
On his series with Francesco Gasco, Pascual Ibañez says the following: "Francesco has a long family line dating all the way to the old Spartans and Romans. It was this heritage and his strong masculine features that inspired me to shoot Roman Bath. I used a shirt of black mesh to give him a fighters look and used 1920 silk shawls as a skirt." The result is stunning and the name for the series well chosen. Francesco is a spitting image of an ancient Roman fighter and since the photos were taken against the slate walls of Pascual's own bathroom, Roman Bath seems very appropriate. –BM-
