YOU CAN’T HAVE MISSED THE FACT WE ARE GETTING IN QUIET A CHRISTMASSY MOOD ALREADY. AND WHY NOT. THE CLOCK IS TICKING AWAY THE DAYS AND IN LESS THEN A WEEK WE GATHER AROUND THE TREE TO OPEN PRESENTS AND CELEBRATE THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR. TRADITIONAL? YES. BUT A TRADITION THAT NEVER GETS BORING.
As a child we celebrated Christmas pretty much the same way every year. A tree full of silver ornaments, some with a touch of color. A crib underneath and red, green and white decorations all through the house. A true family tradition. Over the years it has changed. Christmas is still a family and/or friends gathering and a celebration of togetherness, but the decoration has evolved dramatically. No more paper decorations in the living room, the crib is gone (sorry) and the tree… well, it changes pretty much every year. We’ve done purple and pink, gold and copper, mint, white and even black. Decorating the tree has become an art by itself. But no matter how you do it, there is still no other color that expresses better the warmth of Christmas as red.
Once again Hong Kong based photographer Antoni d’Esterre teams up with Mass Luciano for another styleful photo shoot, featuring the unique apparel pieces from streetwear brand MASS. Designer and stylist Mass Luciano designs two capsules of contemporary basics a year and sticks to a simple colour palette of black or white. We love how he takes everyday basics for men, like sweatshirts, t-shirts, shorts, and gives them a modern twist. And the simple color palette is of course a perfect fit for the festive season. Mass likes to combine easy to wear silhouettes with unexpected materials, bold graphics and textured detailing to make ordinary clothes feel special, and he does it brilliantly.
Leave it up to Antoni d’Esterre to add an extra festive layer to the fashionable pieces of MASS. The power of Antoni’s work lies in its perfect simplicity and the clothes of Mass Luciano are the perfect elements for that. This time he choose Brazilian model and budding actor Juan De La Torre to showcase MASS apparel. In fact, the shoot features clothes (well some at least) of both Zara and MASS, who were recently chosen as the winner of Lane Crawford’s 2016 ‘The Next New’ awards for menswear, and is part of Antoni's series called Red, Hot & Rising. The black and white palette Mass Luciano prefers to work with is perfect to combine with the bright colors Antoni likes to work with, and the chosen red background color perfectly matches Juan’s Brazilian suntanned skin. Not to say it puts us in a very cheery mood. –BM-
