DOUGIE OGILVIE IS A PAINTER LIVING AND WORKING IN CHICAGO. AN ARTISTIC PAINTER THAT IS, NOT A HOUSE PAINTER. THERE REALLY ISN’T THAT MUCH TO BE FOUND ON THE INTERNET ABOUT DOUGIE AND IF YOU DO TRY TO LOOK HIM UP YOU’LL PROBABLY END UP WITH THE ARTWORKS OF MANY OTHER OGILVY PAINTERS. IT SEEMS LIKE CREATIVITY IS LINKED TO THAT NAME. DOUGIE FINDS HIMSELF IN SOME PRETTY GOOD COMPANY.
Some months ago, Dougie Ogilvie found himself in some other good company. The company of KJ Heath. KJ Heath is a Chicago based photographer with a wide range of experience from helping emerging models develop their portfolios to working with actors and dancers on their head shots. His work stands out through a large variety of different types of models as well as a certain sense or eroticism that seems to overlay all his work, whether it is male art photography or fashion. The reasons for that are not conscious. It is what KJ Heath is all about. He believes there is beauty in all types of men and he loves exploring that. KJ is able to not only shoot the physical beauty of his men, but also bring out their strong personal energy, which is always a big part of his photo work. The sense of eroticism is something that comes naturally to KJ. It isn’t something he turns on and off with every shoot he organizes. It is a part of who he is as a person and photography allows him to explore it and share it.
KJ Heath is the kind of photographer who likes to discuss ideas with his subjects upfront and who welcomes models who bring something to the table as well. Working with someone like 24 years old Dougie Ogilvie must have been an absolute pleasure for KJ. As Dougie is a painter himself, he knows all about composition, lighting and contrast as well as how to work with models, how to make them comfortable and how to get the best out of them. Add to that that Dougie himself is pretty good on the eye as well and you have a winning match. The risk of course of working with another artist is that his personal artistic vision might be overpowering yours, but if that was the case here, I don’t think anyone would be complaining. After all, who doesn’t like a Dougie style every now and then. –BM-
