SOME TIME AGO WE GOT IN CONTACT WITH SCOTT TANNER. WE GOT ALONG PRETTY WELL AND HAD THE INTENTION TO DO AN INTERVIEW, WHEN ALL CHANGED AND WE SOMEHOW LOST CONTACT. UNTIL RECENTLY, WHEN WE WERE IN NEW YORK CITY AND COINCIDENTALLY MET ONE OF SCOTT’S BEST FRIENDS.FEELING IT WAS MEANT TO BE, WE GOT BACK IN CONTACT WITH SCOTT AND FINALLY, ONE THING LED TO ANOTHER.
Scott Tanner is without doubt one of the hottest gay adult models of the moment. His name can be found on the star lists of many renowned porn studio, both as actor and producer. Now signed as a Raging Stallion Stud, and his latest film To The Last Man has landed him 2 Gayvn Awards (the film went home with a total of 13) and 3 honorable nominations for the upcoming 2009 Grabby Awards in categories Best Performer, Best Three-Way Sex Scene (with Logan McCree and Ricky Sinz) and Best Supporting Actor. Having seen Scott in action, we wouldn’t mind a little bit of support ourselves ☺. Scott is easy going, a professional and has a big heart, and he loves to talk (is that what he meant when he said he is very oral?). Regardless if he actually will win one of those desired Grabby’s, for us Scott is already a winner.
Scott, to begin with, please tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from, how old are you, etc.
Scott: Well...I am originally from the Northeast United States. I grew up between the farm in Pennsylvania and the apt. in NYC. I now live in San Francisco and have for the past year. I just turned 30 in January... and I LOVE IT!!
It all started in 2000, while you were still at school. Can you explain what it is that made you decide to do porn? What attracts you in this work?
Scott: I have always loved being naked. There are so many photos of me as a child that show my mother chasing my naked ass around the yard or trying to put my clothes back on. My parents had to put a lock on my bedroom door when I was 8, because my sisters were always barging in my room in the mornings and I would have shed my pajamas sometime during the night and be lying in bed completely naked. To this day I cannot stand to sleep in clothes. I do keep my clothes on when in the yard… for the most part.
When I went to college I would always throw the covers off of me on purpose, so that my roommate would see me. This is when I started to become more of an exhibitionist. Then when I got my own apartment, the blinds were always up when I got out of the shower. Even if nobody was on the street to look up at me. It was the idea that someone might be watching that turned me on. So then I started to pose for the art class and I did that for a few months. I was always terrified that I would get an erection and ruin the class, but the instructor told me that it was art and as long as I could keep the erection for the remainder of the class, then it was fine. Well, that seemed like a lot of pressure, so I managed to not get one.
One day I got a call from a friend of mine who was a Still/Glamour photographer for Catalina, in Hollywood. Apparently they had a model drop out of a shoot and I was the first person he thought of. I had never been on a plane, had never shot a film and had never been to Hollywood. So I said yes. Two days later I was on a plane, in the Hollywood Hills, shooting my first sex scene (which I don’t think is available any longer...it was only ever released on VHS!). It went very well, I had a blast and returned a second time. I bought a car with the money I made. I remember it was a 2000 Geo Storm and I thought it was great!
But you didn’t start full time in the adult industry at first. In fact, you had a double career for some time. Can you tell us about that?
Scott: I made the decision to not do another film until I had finished school, which is something I would recommend for anyone who has that opportunity. Once I finished I worked as an Ad Exec. for GENRE Magazine in NYC. I did that for a couple years and then took a job with the FDA. I produced conferences for the Pharmaceutical Industry, on an international basis. I was mostly in Amsterdam and Dublin, but also did a few in the states. It was a great job and I enjoyed it, but I also found it to be a bit stifling. Here I was in my mid 20's, wearing a suit and tie everyday and dealing with pharmacist, scientist and chemist on a daily basis. That’s when I decided to do some Internet gigs, something to just get me out of that box I was in. After I did a few Internet shows, that’s when the other offers starting coming. Before I knew it was requesting off work to fly to LA and San Fran to shoot for the studios again.
Still it seems like a big step to decide to work full time and change your life according. What made you make that decision?
Scott: I was in San Fran shooting with Raging Stallion Studios and I had heard that they were looking for a producer. I knew I was qualified and so I sat down with Chris Ward (owner) and gave him my resume. A few days later they had made their decision and offered me the job... I moved cross country 2 weeks later. Production is production, it doesn’t make a difference if you are dealing with scientist and chemist or if you are dealing with models and directors, it’s all the same monster. They need flights and hotels booked, they need you to hold their hand through the conference or shoot and they need you to be there to tell them how fantastic they are and will be. There is much more to it, but those are the key aspects - lol.
How did your direct surrounding – family and friends – react to your decision to work in the porn industry?
Scott: Not EVERYONE knows or needs to know. Some of my family knows and mostly all of my friends know. It’s really a matter of exposure and education to the actual process. Nothing is as it appears and perception is reality in this business, which is exactly how it should be. It’s work, contrary to popular belief, making a porn film is hard work. So once they realized that or have had the opportunity to see that it takes anywhere from 5 to 8 hours to shoot a scene, that the audience then sees for 20 minutes, they understand.
Scott, over the past 8 years you have starred in more than 34 films for several production companies. Let’s take a little retrospective. Can you tell us about your funniest experience?
Scott: Oh wow... for me, all of the funniest experiences happen off camera and I’m pretty sure that the others involved wouldn’t want me sharing those. Although, if you watch the bonus features disc on ‘To The Last Man,’ you will see plenty of outtakes and pretty hilarious moments. The first scene we shot for that movie was one where one of my men gets shot and I am supposed to run from around the barn, squat down and pick him up in my arms. It was a very serious moment, or supposed to be. So I’m running at full speed and I squat down to pick him up and all I hear is a ripping noise. We finished the scene and I stood up and I had torn the entire crotch out of my Levis. So much that my balls were hanging out.The cast and crew lost it. We ended up shooting that scene a few more times, this time without showing my crotch.
And the worst?
Scott: Hhhmmmm... the worst? Funny is one thing, people will forgive you for telling funny stories about them, but when it comes to unflattering situations and events, that’s a bit different. I’m gonna have to pass on that question, but I can tell you that most times it’s been due to a bottom not being as ‘prepared’ as they thought. Think about it…
Of all the guys you have played with, do you have a top 3 list?
Scott: I do have a top 3! A few years ago I worked with Tag Adams on his final scene. That was pretty fantastic and we are actually from the same hometown, which was strange, because its so obscure and in the middle of nowhere. It was also great to work with Tyler Saint, who is one of the sweetest guys in the business, not to mention hung like a horse. And finally I would have to say Damian Rios, because we actually fell in love while filming and spent 2 years of our lives together.
Sounds like a good list Scott. So, logically, following that question, do you have a wish list for any future movie partners?
Scott: Umm...There are a few, but they all seem to escape my mind right now. That’s a tough questions for me. I used to have a lot, but now know so many of them and they have become really good friends, that it’s tough to think of them like that. One of my best friends is Adam Killian. He has worked behind the camera for many years and he recently shot a scene for Falcon with Zeb Atlas. Even though we are close, we could still do a scene together because we are both very professional and driven to really produce an amazing product. So I would want to work with him solely because I know we are already on the same page and thinking about both sides of the camera. Other than him... I recently saw some work that Marco Blaze did... he is HOT! And then there is Orlando Toro, which is actually a scene that looks like it might happen this summer! Keep your eyes peeled for that one!
Let’s go a bit deeper Scott… What is your most preferred action in front of a camera?
Scott: Top, of course!
And in private?
Scott: I am VERY oral.... VERY oral!! ☺
What is your opinion about love and sex?
Scott: When you are fortunate enough to have both elements present... NOTHING can top that... NOTHING!! BUT... sex is fun without love and can be very fulfilling and fantastic. It’s just tough to have it without, once you've already had it with. I am, of course, only speaking from my own experience.
Do you like to cuddle?
Scott: No, sorry. Ask any of my ex boyfriends that question... they will agree, I promise you. I like to cuddle for short, very short, periods of time. I get hot and uncomfortable. It’s not my thing.
What do you have on when you are at home?
Scott: Right now I the fireplace, cuz it’s always cold in San Francisco – ha ha ha. And I’m wearing just sweatpants. I’m usually naked or in sweatpants. That’s pretty much my uniform when at home.
And in bed?
Scott: Nothing. Never did.
What is the favorite song of the moment in your MP3 player?
Scott: Ooh...these questions are always the best for the audience/fans, because they really tell you ALOT about the person. What I listen to and what I am currently reading will always give you insight to where I am and what I am dealing with in my life at the moment. There are too many to list favorites, but lately I have been listening to ‘Beautiful U R’ by Deborah Cox, ‘Sober’ by PINK and’Only One’ by Chris Lake. On a daily basis. So check those out to see what’s going through my head everyday - lol. As far as reading goes, I just finished Armistead Maupins ‘Michael Tolliver Lives’ and am now reading ‘A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius’ by Dave Eggers, and Eckhart Tolles ‘A New Earth - Awakening to Your Lifes Purpose.’
What ring tone do you have?
Scott: I can't stand ring tones!! It’s ALWAYS on vibrate... ☺
Scott, if we could give you the chance to direct and act the perfect scene, what scenario would you like to do, and moreover, with who?
Scott: I would team up with my friend, Adam Killian, and we would come up with an amazingly sexy, dirty, HOT scene, that would involve the both of us and several other amazing men. It’s something that hasn’t been written yet... but I have a feeling that eventually we will get our opportunity... so you are gonna just have to wait. No worries...you will be the first to know boys!
What is the next step in your career?
Scott: I have no clue.... and that’s exactly how I like it. Years ago I stopped planning my future. I used to have a 10 year plan and then I had a 5 year plan and then eventually I realized that regardless of MY plan or what I wanted to happen, the universe would decide what was best for me and at what time. I’m a very happy guy and, for the most part, always have been. So far so good!
Scott, we like to give you the opportunity to say something nice – or naughty – to our readers, so go ahead, let yourself go…
Scott: I think you might regret giving me that opportunity...I tend to have ALOT to say. I guess the biggest message that I try to give everyone, especially in this business and in life in general, is to regret NOTHING and be very careful who you judge. All in all I am very happy with who I am and very happy with where my life is today and so therefore I see no reason to have any regrets, because without each and every step, turn, mis-step, tumble, rise and/or fall, I would be a different person today. And like I said... I happen to really like who I am. I know it seems obvious that we should be "ourselves", but it’s really the most challenging thing to do. It takes a little self-discovery, but it CAN be accomplished! I hope that you guys are happy with yourselves too. If not, then it’s time to make some changes!
People seem to make a lot of judgments and assumptions about those who are in this business. We all judge - ALL of us - but until you have actually walked in that persons shoes and been that individual, in that exact situation, at that exact moment in time (which is IMPOSSIBLE), you will not understand. You can try to relate, but you will never fully understand, so stop trying and just choose to accept people and love them for themselves. Or don't and move about your business and surround yourself with those you do accept and do love.
Some of my favorite quotes right now: "This Above All: To Thine Own Self Be True" - William Shakespeare; "If You Are Going Through Hell, Keep Going" - Sir Winston Churchill; "We are NOT a gay community, a straight community, a black community, an Asian community, etc. We are a WORLD community. We are all the same people, human beings, so take a second look at those you come across, because I promise that you will see yourself in them." – unknown; "Gay men are like apples on trees. The best ones are at the top of the tree. Most men don't want to reach for the good ones because they are afraid of falling and getting hurt. Instead, they just get the rotten apples from the ground that aren't as good, but easy. So the apples at the top think something is wrong with them, when in reality, they're amazing. They just have to wait for the right man to come along, the one who's brave enough to climb all the way to the top of the tree." - Unknown.
