IT DOESN’T MATTER WHO YOU ARE, WHAT YOU ARE AND WHERE YOU ARE IN YOUR LIFE. WE ARE ALL HUMAN BEINGS AND THE ONE THING WE SHARE, THE ONE THING WE HAVE IN COMMON IS OUR ABILITY, OR DISABILITY, TO DEAL WITH EMOTIONS. YOU CAN TRY AS HARD AS YOU WANT, BUT YOU CANNOT DENY THAT THE THINGS THAT HAPPEN TO YOU ALONG THE WAY PROVOKE EMOTIONS THAT, ONE WAY OR THE OTHER, INFLUENCE YOUR LIFE.
Ryan Sandefur is only 19 years old but stands in life with a seriousness and both feet on solid ground that is astonishing and admirable. Looking at Ryan you can’t help but being captured by a certain melancholic sensation and sadness that he seems to radiate and seeing that in a young man of that age makes you wonder. What is it that brought him to this place in life.
Ryan is a former ROTC Officer. For those outside the USA, the ROTC is a college-based officer training program that focuses on leadership development, problem solving, strategic planning and professional ethics. Pretty heavy stuff for a teenager. But also the kind of training that keeps your young head clear, that helps you to mature into adulthood and prepares you for life in general. Ryan is, as mentioned before, a serious guy. He currently is a college student, studying criminal justice and personal training. Again, one wonders what could trigger the decisions a young man makes to take this path in life. And to understand that, one should take a look beyond the man himself. A look at his history and the events that shaped him to who he is today.
Most likely every kid will, at some point in its young life, be confronted with a situation that includes, in one way or the other, bullying. Hopefully it is a small experience that doesn’t influence your life much. But for some kids it doesn’t turn out that way. Some kids are not that lucky and suffer more from bullying than others. Yan was such a kid. He was a small little boy and easy target. But somehow, all the picking made Ryan stronger then most kids his age and motivated him to become what he has become. Without loosing the nice personality and character he naturally possessed.
Scrawny as he was growing up, Ryan Sandefur suffered rejection and hard times. This is what motivated him to get in better shape. Instead of letting it bring him down, he rose his head up high and worked hard to turn things around. Many guys who start working out concentrate on only a few body parts. Ryan focused on the full picture, not leaving anything out of sight. The result is a very symmetric look that doesn’t feel like he has taken any shortcuts. Bullying often does result in a lower self-esteem and insecurity. For Ryan it means that, after all the work he has done, he still doesn’t realize himself what an amazing transformation he has brought about. Stunning and attractive as he is, he still has that air of vulnerability and sadness that makes him endearing.
Ryan is, as said before, a serious guy, and J. Cassoni has beautifully captured his true personality with this set of photos. A series that breaths a sense of nostalgia and soberness that makes you want to reach out to Ryan and hug him. To hold him and comfort him. Ryan studies and works fulltime nightshifts at a grocery store. Even though he has given him a full plate for his age, he loves every second of his current life. Dedicated to do his best at everything, he still is passionate about working out, cares deeply for his family and though studying criminal justice, he dreams of a career in fitness, modeling and acting. Ryan is a happy man. –BM-
